What to Expect During a Microneedling Treatment
Before beginning any treatment, you’ll undergo a skin consultation with Dr. Horlick, who will assess your individual needs and suitability for microneedling. This consultation will include discussing your past medical history and your skincare goals. The initial consultation is key to devising a bespoke treatment plan to maximise the benefits for your skin.

Every microneedling treatment begins by numbing the treatment area using a local anaesthetic numbing agent to minimize discomfort during treatment. After the numbing agent has taken effect, usually 5-10 minutes after application, Dr. Horlick will perform your microneedling treatment using a serum that will help you to achieve your goals. For example, hyaluronic acid serums are used to help improve hydration, whereas hair serums are selected if you are using microneedling for hair loss. During the treatment, you should not feel any discomfort due to the effects of the numbing cream.

Contraindications to Microneedling
Microneedling treatments are an excellent choice for many patients, however, microneedling is not advised in the presence of certain conditions. Microneedling is not appropriate for the treatment of keloid scars, which may become more prominent following the treatment, and those with a personal or family history of keloid scarring may also be discouraged from having the treatment. Patients with a history of bleeding disorders may also be advised against microneedling. Results of Microneedling Treatment
Microneedling can leave you feeling more confident, with tighter, clearer, and more vibrant skin. Results can be seen 4-6 weeks after the treatment. To achieve the best results, we recommend an initial course of three to four microneedling treatments that are spaced at least three weeks apart. Bi-annual maintenance treatments are then recommended. The number of treatments will vary according to your skin concern, something that will be discussed at the initial consultation.

Alternatives to Microneedling
Many people wonder if they should opt for at-home dermal rollers instead of going for professional microneedling treatments. While the low price point of at-home dermal rollers seems appealing, these home rollers can be dangerous.
