What are anti-wrinkle injections?

How do anti-wrinkle injections work in the neck?
Botulinum toxin A is the active substance in anti-wrinkle injections. This naturally occurring compound works by temporarily blocking the signals that tell the muscles to contract.

The platysma is a thin muscle that lies under the skin of the neck. As we age, the muscle weakens and forms muscular bands that are apparent with different facial expressions. They make the neck look old and the skin lax.

Anti-wrinkle injections, injected just under the skin, where the muscle lies, causing the muscle to relax, eliminating the muscular bands. As the treatment is injected locally, it is extremely safe. The effects last around 3-4 months but can last longer with repeat administration. A top-up is not required.

The process
Before treatment
At your consultation, your goals will be discussed and your neck assessed. Dr Horlick will recommend a treatment plan based on this. Consent form will be completed and before photos taken. You will now be ready for your treatment.
During treatment
Your neck will be cleaned, injection points marked and then the product will be injected. The marks will be cleaned off and your treatment will be completed.
After treatment
You will be advised of the aftercare instructions and a leaflet provided. You will be provided with contact details in case you have any questions of concerns following your treatment.
Results
You can expect to see your results at 5-7 days, with maximum effect seen at 14 days. Results last 3-4 months, although can be longer after repeated treatments.
